The center part of the snowflake is the same as the center that I designed for my Pastel Snowflake Coaster pattern. I made up the edging on this snowflake as I went along, just going wherever my imagination took me. When it was finished, I thought it looked like the elegant edge of a queen's royal crown, thus the name Royal Crown Snowflake.
Abbreviations: ch = chain, ea = each, dc = double crochet, rnd = round, sc = single crochet, sl st = slip stitch, sp = space, st = stitch, sts = stitches
Materials: any yarn or thread. Examples: worsted weight yarn, US size H hook or size 10 cotton crochet thread, US size 7 or 8 steel hook
Finished Size: You can vary the finished size by using a different weight of yarn and different size of hook.

End off, leaving a strand to weave in. Weave in ends.
To use this as a hanging decoration, weave a strand of 1/8 inch satin ribbon or metallic thread through the hole in the center of one of the 3-picot groups, with the center of the strand at the 3-picot group and then tying the ribbon or thread together near the end of the ribbon or thread edges, to secure and to make a loop for hanging the snowflake.
