This crocheted wristband has a single crochet flat area where a cross stitch design can be added to the finished band. The other rows are in ribbing to provide stretch for a comfortable fit.

Materials: any worsted weight yarn (use cotton if for summer wear), size H hook

When doing a cross stitch design on this band, use yarn of the same weight that you used to crochet the wrist band.

Some of the rows are worked in the back loop only, which is important to give stretch to the piece.

Base Starting Chain: Chain 22.

Row 1: sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc in ea ch across. (21 sc)

Rows 2 - 8: ch 1 to turn, sc in back loop only of ea sc across. (21 sc)

Rows 9 - 17: ch 1 to turn, sc in both loops of ea sc across. (21 sc)

Rows 18 - 27 (30, 33, 37): ch 1 to turn, sc in back loop only of ea sc across. (21 sc)

Note: 27 rows fits a 4 - 6 year old wrist and arm; about 30 rows fits an older child's wrist and arm; about 33 rows fits a teen and average adult female wrist; about 37 rows fits an average man's wrist. Try it on the person who will be wearing it to check for the correct fit before ending off. Make fewer rows to fit a smaller wrist or more rows for a larger wrist and arm.

When you end off, leave a long strand for sewing the edges together (which will be done after any cross stitch is completed).

If you are adding cross stitch to the flat single crochet section, do this before joining the ends of the wristband. Work the cross stitch in the same weight of yarn that you used to crochet the wristband. Thread a strand on a large-eye sewing needle for doing the cross stitch.

When cross stitch is completed, fold the piece in half, with the right sides together, lining up the two shorter edges (the starting chain edge of row 1 and the edge of last row made). Slip stitch in each stitch across the edge, working through both thicknesses of the two edges at the same time, to join. End off. Weave in ends. Turn right side out.
