Here's a bat silhouette cross stitched on a crocheted wide wrist band. To make this, you will need these links: the free chart for the bat design and the basic wrist band free pattern.
First, crochet the Basic Wrist Band with Area for Cross Stitch (see link above). Next, work the cross stitch on the band, using the same weight of yarn that you used to crochet the band. If the band is to be worn in hot weather, it will be most comfortable to wear if made with cotton yarn (the cross stitch should also be done in cotton yarn, if for Summer wear). For other seasons, you could choose acrylic or other fibers for the yarn that you use for the band and for the cross stitch.
The bat silhouette is 19 squares wide on the chart, with the widest part of the bat covering 19 single crochet stitches on the band. Somehow, I accidentally started too close to the edge when I was beginning the cross stitch. I started on the left hand side and realized after I had done enough to see where the opposite bat edges would end that I should have begun on more stitch over from the edge on the left hand side. To compensate, I added 4 little dots of color on the right hand side to balance it out and make it look like it was supposed to be that way. I like the result and, if you like that look, you could do your cross stitch of the bat off-center on purpose so you have room for the little dots on the edge. Sometimes what could be called mistakes end up creating a different look that is a keeper.
After I did the basic cross stitch, I went around the bat shape and the 4 little color boxes with the color black, in a straight stitch outline, which makes a nicer finished look on the cross stitch portions. I also added several straight stitches for the eyes in a light green color, making these stitches form a narrow V shape so that a little of the black shows through between these two straight stitches, making the eyes look like they are only slightly open.
