Reader Reviews: Yarns We Hate -- Worst Crochet Yarns

Red Heart Super Saver yarn

My Review

Yarn is stiff and scratchy. Items made with this yarn catch and hold lint terribly, not to mention pet hair if you have a pet in your home. If you must use this yarn, do not use with your more expensive wood hooks and needles, it is very hard on them. Even after washing, yarn remains scratchy, though some of the stiffness washes out. I would not recommend it for making any clothing or afghan-type item. Also, I would not recommend it for Christmas tree skirts as the tree needles become imbedded in and attached to the yarn fibers and are nearly impossible to remove.

Would you recommend this to a friend?

No

To Nanagoble: Thanks so much for contributing this detailed and helpful review. I really appreciate it.

To Everyone: I'm not a big fan of this yarn either. I've had a bit of success with getting projects to soften up by using fabric softener on them, but this yarn is never going to feel like cashmere. My Red Heart Super Saver yarn review is here, if you're interested in getting a bit more info about it.
