What Types of Items Do You Crochet for Charity?
8" squares
Which Organization(s) Do You Donate Crocheted Items To?
This is a charity asking for 8" crocheted or knitted squares to be sent to South Africa where they are made up into warm blankets for the estimated 11.6 million abandoned children and AIDS orphans. Many live in great poverty in shack settlements. Some head up families of their siblings and other children and some live alone, without shelter, in hills and dumps around the cities. There is such great need there and it gives me much satisfaction in doing what little I can to help.
Advice
- The squares have to be sent direct to South Africa, incurring postage costs.

Rosesong, thanks for passing along the info about this charity. Many non-knitters among us probably would not have found out about this opportunity if not for your post.
This strikes me as being an easy and low-commitment way to get started with crocheting for charity. Many of us make squares to test out new stitches, or work gauge swatches. Some of us have probably already made squares that would work for this.
Great find!
