Detail of Edging for Mechia's Baby Afghan

Project Title and Brief Description

Mechia's Baby Afghan crocheted in an old-time stitch I revived to make a fabric background that drapes beautifully. Handstitched cross stitch embroidery for the design requested by baby's Mom from a booklet of Pooh designs, done in a manner that makes the afghan reversible.

Why Was This Your Best Project From 2010?

This afghan was made for my latest, and probably last, grandchild. Even though I prefer to design my own embroidery designs for the baby afghans I have made for my grandchildren, I was quite pleased with the way this one turned out. It is a perfect fit with the Pooh themed afghans made for Mechia's two older brothers.

Lessons Learned

  • This afghan uses a stitch that resembles the afghan stitch, without the bother of holding several stitches on a needle; nor does one have to weave in a lot of ends as there is a turn at the end of each row.

Amy Solovay, Crochet Guide, says:

Wow, Nana! That is amazing work! It turned out lovely. I can see that you put a lot of time and love into that afghan. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful project with us.
