Project Title and Brief Description
Upcycled Oversized Shrug
I partially deconstructed an old crochet pillow case that I'd made years ago and upcycled it into an oversized crochet shrug. No pattern here; just played around to make something I would want to wear!
Why Was This Your Best Project From 2012?
I made a lot of things I really liked in 2012. And I actually made a few things that I wear more than this. But I felt like this was my best project because it gave me a chance to save an item I'd crocheted awhile ago that I definitely wasn't going to use anymore but that was kind of special to me.
You see, I had crocheted the pillow case as part of a set when I was going through deep depression. (I wrote about how crochet helped me through depression in my book, Crochet Saved My Life). I didn't want the pillows anymore but I kind of wanted to save a part of that set of work. Maintaining a bulk of the fabric as it was (not completely frogging it) allowed me to do that in a way that would allow me to keep using the project in this new way.
Lessons Learned
- I didn't actually learn much new stuff with this one. I did learn some new things from other 2012 projects, though - my favorite of which was how to do broomstick lace.
