How I Learned to Crochet With My Left Hand

I had to teach myself to crochet? I read many books on how to and then just tried it? I had a problem when I did figure it out? You NEED to COUNT? Then your work won't be lopsided? As my husband would say, "it's unique." If one needs help, About.com is very helpful? I always tell people about the crocheting and knitting sites.

How I Hold My Crochet Hook and Yarn / Thread

I write/print like I am right handed and don't have my hand at an angle. My hand is straight up and down. I hold my hook in my left hand like I am writing. The yarn is in my right hand and that is how I have tension. My thumb and index finger hold the hook. I scoop the hook into the stitch, and wrap the yarn over it.

Advice

  • If you have any qestions and unable to figure it out, I'd Love to help anyone. It is very rewarding to see finished items that go to many places. My favorite are pre-peemie blankets to make.

Have You Needed Any Special Tools or Equipment?

No I just have to read and re-read the pattern before I try it or call my friend who can explain it to me.

Thanks for the info, Jeanne!

I am smiling at "it's unique." Yes, counting is definitely recommended for everyone, whether left-handed or right-handed.

I am glad you find the about.com site helpful. Thanks for adding your input and making it even more helpful! :)
