How I Learned to Crochet With My Left Hand

I got my basic instruction from a right handed teacher, sitting in front of her, but working with my left hand. In all my craft work, I have found it works best to watch the teacher and then figure out myself what works best for me.

The book that is my best reference is "My Crochet Teacher" by Susan Bates. It gives instructions for both left handed and right handed crochet. You just know that you are doing things backwards from your right handed friends.

How I Hold My Crochet Hook and Yarn / Thread

I hold the crochet hook as I would a pencil. My right hand is in front of the work in progress with yarn going over work in progress. I've never felt there was any difference in being left handed in this respect.

Advice

  • Take your time
  • Don't get frustrated - ripping out is part of the learning process
  • Enjoy crochet - it is very relaxing

Have You Needed Any Special Tools or Equipment?
