How I Learned to Crochet With My Left Hand
I am a lefty, I both Knit and Crochet, I learned to knit by sitting opposite a right hander, I also taught myself to crochet,
The funny story about my being left handed is when I tried to do a baby coverlet, with the Now I lay me down to sleep, I kept trying to get the pattern to turn out but it kept coming out backwards, it finally dawned on me to sit down and re-write the whole pattern done in popcorn stitch reversing each row, that is what I had to do to get it to turn out, since then I have had to reverse patterns not many patterns are ever written for us lefty.
How I Hold My Crochet Hook and Yarn / Thread
When I knit or crochet I always hold the yarn over my right index finger to guide it, and to give me the right tension. I find if I try and always reverse the pattern in my mind and hold the needles or needle to keep control it always works out for me.
Advice
- lefty always have to check the work we are doing especially in the popcorn stich to be sure it doesn;t come out backwards. I have been told I do a mirror version of a right hander with both knitting and crocheting, I have done both since I was 10yrs old and I am going to be 62yrs old in a few weeks.

Thanks for the info, Patty! I am sure many other left-handed people will benefit from this helpful post.
Lefties, take note: any patterns with writing will probably need to be reversed before you can use them. If you have a scanner, you can scan your charts and flip them using image editing software. That will save you the time of re-writing the whole pattern like Patty had to do. Also, some copy machines have the capability to reverse images, which could prove helpful as well.
Thanks again Patty!
